Pouring with a Purpose
Pouring with a Purpose
At Angry Otter Liquor, our passion for giving back to the community meets our love for otters, whether they're angry or not! Picture this: a coastal adventure filled with brews and the spirit of conservation.
When Stanley Park Brewing rolled out its October program, donating $3 of every sale from their Hoppy Trails Mix Pack to the Vancouver Aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR), we knew we had to dive in. Our otter-loving hearts resonated with the cause, and we wanted to be a part of something bigger.
Thanks to the enthusiasm of our fantastic guests, who eagerly grabbed the Hoppy Trails Mix Pack, we made a splash with a generous donation of $1269 to VAMMR.
It's not just about the beer; it's about making a difference for our friends off the coast.
The Aquarium’s Marine Mammal Rescue Society
VAMMR is an independent registered charity proud to collaborate with the Vancouver Aquarium. They stand as the sole rescue center with a hospital in Canada, dedicated to the noble mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and ultimately releasing marine mammals. With over 60 years of operation and responding to over 300 emergencies annually, they are the unsung heroes of the BC coast.
Some of their rescue trips involve disentanglements, rescuing curious animals caught in discarded ropes, nets, packing bands, and monofilament lines. Left untreated, these materials lead to a prolonged and painful death for these innocent creatures. But fear not, for VAMMR has pioneered a groundbreaking method to save them.
Over the past two decades, VAMMR veterinarian Dr. Martin Haulena has played a key role in developing a precise drug combination to sedate sea lions in the wild, allowing for careful handling. The success of these trips depends on ideal weather and ocean conditions, specialized equipment, an expert team, and boat support from Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
