Crafting Cocktails with a Canadian Whisky Twist

Canadian whisky is known for its smoothness and versatility, making it a perfect base for a variety of cocktails.Whether you're enjoying a classic or experimenting with new recipes, Canadian whisky brings a touch of Canada's rich whisky tradition to every sip.

Here's a list of Whisky cocktails from some of our favourite Canadian Whisky brands:

Cherry Whisky Sour


Ingredients:

  • 4 oz Fresh Cherries, Pitted and Diced
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz. Lime Juice
  • 2 oz. Signal Hill Whisky

Directions:

Place the diced cherries in a small bowl along with the simple syrup for at least 30 minutes. Combine the cherries, syrup, lime juice, and Signal Hill Whisky in a blender. Blend on high until the cherries are completely pureed and pour into a glass over ice. Serve immediately.


Side Car 


Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Signal Hill Whisky OP
  • 1 oz Orange Liqueur
  • ¾ oz Lemon Juice

Directions:

Add all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds, or until the outside of the shaker has frosted. Strain into a sugar-rimmed coupe glass, and garnish with a lemon twist.


Mai Tai 


Ingredients:

  • 1¾ oz. Signal Hill Whisky
  • ½ oz. Cointreau
  • ¼ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • ½ oz. Orgeat Syrup
  • Angostura Bitters

Directions:

Add Signal Hill Whisky, Cointreau, lime juice and Orgeat syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Double strain into a Collins glass with crushed ice. Top with an Angostura float (roughly 15-20 dashes of Angostura Bitters). Garnish with a fresh mint crown and a fresh lime or dehydrated lime wheel.


Canadian Coffee 


Ingredients:

  • 1 oz Cabot Trail maple whisky
  • 1 oz Cabot Trail maple cream
  • Hot Coffee
  • Sweetened whipped cream
  • Chocolate pearls (optional)

Directions:

In a coffee mug or a toddy glass, combine the whisky and the maple cream. Top up with hot coffee. Garnish with whipped cream and chocolate pearls.


Blackberry Basil Smash


Ingredients:

  • 1-½ oz J.P. Wiser’s Deluxe
  • 1oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz Monin Blackberry syrup
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • 3 basil leaves
  • Soda water
  • Lemon wheel
  • Garnish: fresh blackberries

Directions:

In the bottom of a rocks glass muddle a chopped lemon wedge then press basil and tip with ice. In a shaker with ice strain into glass, then top with soda water and garnish with a lemon wheel and blackberries.


Canadiano


Ingredients:

  • 1 oz J.P. Wiser’s Deluxe
  • 1 oz Campari
  • 5 oz Soda Water
  • Orange Slice

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a highball glass with ice and garnish with an orange slice.


Boulevardier 


Ingredients:

  • 1-½ oz Lot No. 40
  • 1 oz Campari
  • 1oz Sweet Vermouth

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass, add ice so mixing glass is ¾ full and stir about 15 to 18 times. Strain up or over one large cube of ice in glass. Squeeze zest across the drink to release the oils, give it a twist and place it in the drink.


Lot’ Eh


Ingredients:

  • 1-½ oz Lot No. 40
  • ½ oz Amaro 
  • 4 oz Coffee
  • Bar spoon of Cinnamon syrup
  • Lightly whipped cream

Directions:

Combine ingredients in a glass and give it a stir. Lightly whip cream and float on top of drink and grate fresh nutmeg overtop. Serve in a Mug.


Canadian Cocktail 


Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Pike Creek
  • 0.25 oz Orange Curacao
  • 0.25 oz simple syrup
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • Garnish: orange zest

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in mixing glass, add ice so mixing glass is ¾ full and stir about 15 to 18 times. Strain over one large cube of ice in glass. Squeeze zest across the drink to release the oils, give it a twist and use as a garnish.


Habitant


Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Pike Creek
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz maple syrup
  • 2 dashes of Bitters
  • Garnish: dehydrated lemon wheel or flowers

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker, add ice and shake until well blended for about 5 to 6 seconds and fine strain into chilled glass and garnish.


Paper Plane


Ingredients:

  • ¾ oz Crown Royal
  • ¾ oz Aperol
  • ¾ oz Amaro
  • ¾ oz Lemon juice

Directions:

Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Shake and strain into a coupe glass and garnish with a lemon peel.


East Coast Mule 


Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Crown Royal
  • ¼ oz Lime juice
  • Ginger Beer

Directions:

Fill a stainless steel or copper mug with ice. Add Crown Royal and lime juice. Fill the glass with ginger beer and stir to mix.
